These ledger sheets from the Burnham Wood and Piering Company came to me with other papers left over from settling Luther Finch’s estate in the 1940s and 1950s. They indicate that at age 29 in 1881 he was much involved in the business activities of the area. In 1882 he was elected Arcadia Township supervisor, a position he held until 1897. These pages show that the Company provided for many needs of the community. There are purchases of merchandise, lumber, shingles, horses charged to Luther’s account. The Company also provided banking services. There are payments or account transfers from other early settlers and cash withdrawals.
